VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

This page is intended to offer students the chance to obtain volunteer experience in a variety of settings. Volunteer experience is usually considered community service, which is something numerous employers are looking for. Taking time out of your busy schedule to serve your community or a specific cause shows a great deal of dedication to an employer.

EMS Classes - Volunteers Needed in San Francisco!

Dates / Locations / Times:	The San Francisco Paramedic Association is always looking for volunteers to assist with various EMS classes around the San Francisco Bay Area. For current classes needing volunteers, go to their website at www.sfparamedics.org
You will receive:	Valuable experience watching paramedic level (or higher) students perform patient assessments. Learn from their plusses and minuses. You will also receive a free San Francisco Paramedic Association t-shirt and your choice of an SFPA rescue key chain or ALS field guide.
Your role:	As a volunteer, you will be designated to role-play a victim of a medical emergency scenario. Please wear loose, old, comfortable clothing, as you may be on the floor for some scenarios.

Volunteers Needed with EMT, Paramedic or Advanced First Aid Certification

Dates / Locations / Times:	Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday assignments at the Oakland Zoo in Knowland Park, 9777 Golf Links Road, Oakland, CA 94605. Times are varied.
You will receive:	Valuable experience while also serving your community.
Your role:	As a volunteer, you will offer guidance, first aid, and basic life support to adult and child visitors. You will recognize and treat trauma victims until Advanced Life Support arrives. You will respond to various locations within a 50 + acre zoo/park environment and make determinations regarding the need for Advanced Life Support via handheld radio. Personal equipment is desirable but not required.

FIRE DEPARTMENTS WITH VOLUNTEER / RESERVE FIREFIGHTER PROGRAMS:

Below is a list of fire departments that I believe have volunteer or reserve firefighter programs. I have listed them by County, mainly because most fire departments that have reserve or volunteer firefighters require those members to either live in the city or area that they protect, or within a very close proximity (which makes sense). These departments only accept applications for reserve or volunteer positions on an annual basis, a bi-annual basis, an as-needed basis, or a continuous basis. It is up to you to make the effort and do the research so you don't miss out an opportunity to serve your community and gain valuable experience!
